Hello, I am Jonas
Project leader. Parent. Expat based in Zurich, Switzerland.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually opened a new chapter of my life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Switzerland wasn’t on the plans for the long haul. Similar to many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon turned into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar procedures, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more challenging than expected.
The Transition Phase
There was cultural adjustment, uncertainty, and plenty of learning on the go. Gradually routines emerged. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
What Led Me to Create Open Field Harbor
Much of online information fell into either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical advice grounded in real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site features:
- Hands-on insights from living in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a true change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not just a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Switzerland goes on, as does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I will keep recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Zurich or anywhere in Switzerland, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Jonas
